XXL is starting off this summer by going “Hard in The Paint,” choosing Brick Squad’s frontman Waka Flocka Flame to cover their June 2012 issue. In the article Waka discusses his speedy rise to stardom, his upcoming album Triple F Life: Friends, Fans Family, the rumored controversy with Gucci Mane, and the recent murder of friend Slim Dunkin, among many other things.
During the interview the ATL MC gave insight on what his new “celeb” life has been like, telling the mag exactly how he views himself after all of the new found success. “I don’t feel like a celebrity, or this quote-unquote star everybody talk about. I guess Waka Flocka like a job, honestly. I’m at my job right now, so I gotta do it to my fullest.”
He then continued, reflecting on his Brick Squad team and what fans can expect from them in the near future. “I got a whole label, man. We fire. We the new Wu-Tang, Roc-A-Fella. We what these labels are trying to create right now. We the new Cash Money. Squad! Flockaveli was the return of gangsta. I brought gangsta back, man.”
Waka was also recently photographed by fashion photographer Terry Richardson for a feature in VMAN magazine’s 2012 summer issue. During the interview the rapper spoke about music, his mom, and what he hopes to achieve outside of hip-hop.
The June 2012 issue of XXL hits stands on May 29.
